Hello, everybody! Welcome back to another awesome episode of Hines On Air. We have a very special guest today, my lovely wife Gabby Bravo. We’re going to talk about all things business, relationships, children, working together, and more. We announced this show together and started getting lots of questions—good ones too. People are curious about how we work together, how we keep it fun, and how we avoid conflicts. So, let’s dive into all that. Everyone, please welcome Gabby Bravo!
Gabby: Thank you so much for having me here. This is my first time doing a podcast in English. Sometimes I might switch to Spanish if needed.
Matt: No problem, try to stick to English today. We’ll make it work. So, you’ve been working at the law firm for about a year now, but before that, you were at Bank of America. Can you tell us about your experience there?
Gabby: Yes, I worked on the financial side, mainly in investments, for about four years. I was the first Latina in the building, speaking both Spanish and English, although my English wasn’t very good at the time. I didn’t know anything about finance initially. My role was to help open up the market to the Hispanic community, and I learned everything on the job. My team and boss were very supportive, and I started to understand how financial investments work, which was very exciting for me.
Matt: You’ve been helping us grow the law firm, stepping in as Vice President of Public Relations. That’s been a great decision. How did you find the transition from finance to the law firm?
Gabby: In the beginning, it was challenging because we didn’t know how working together as a married couple would be. We had to balance personal and professional life. Good communication has been the key. We set goals together, both personally and professionally, and work towards them.
Matt: We’ve received questions about how we met. So, how did we meet, Gabby?
Gabby: We met when I was selling newspaper ads. I came to your office and then got hired because of my energy and proposals. We knew each other from that time, but we both had our separate lives. We reconnected at a Christmas party years later, and things started from there.
Matt: A big question is how we balance being spouses and working together. What do you think?
Gabby: It’s all about communication. We have agreements and respect each other’s space. For example, when you go hunting or I attend galas, we support each other’s interests. We also have an admin scale where we set and review our goals together.
Matt: Right. It’s important to keep personal and professional issues separate. We talk about our goals and support each other, whether it’s in business or personal endeavors.
Matt: Another question we got is about our son, Julian. Was he planned or a surprise?
Gabby: Julian was definitely planned. We had a meeting where we discussed our goals, including having children. It’s crucial to have aligned goals in a relationship.
Matt: Yes, we had a business meeting to ensure our goals matched. We both wanted children, so Julian was part of our plan.
Matt: How do we handle jealousy and cultural differences?
Gabby: In the beginning, there were some jealous moments, but we communicated about them openly. Cultural differences, like how to dress our son, were also discussed. It’s about understanding and respecting each other’s perspectives.
Matt: Absolutely. Open communication is crucial. We discuss our feelings and find solutions together.
Gabby: What’s your favorite food, Matt?
Matt: Hmm, I’d say pizza. What about you?
Gabby: My favorite food is «seco de pollo,» a traditional Ecuadorian dish. And my favorite color is blue.
Matt: Mine is green. Simple preferences, but it’s nice to share these little things.
Matt: Thank you so much for joining me today, Gabby. It’s been a lovely show.
Gabby: Thank you for having me. Communication, love, and trust are the keys to balancing work and personal life. We support and trust each other, and that makes everything work.
Matt: Absolutely. And thank you, everyone, for joining us. If you’re enjoying these podcasts, please like, follow, and subscribe. We have more amazing guests and stories coming up. Join us for our next Hines On Air podcast. See you soon!
